Robin Phillips retired in 2017 as a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at St Mark’s Hospital in London and remains Emeritus Professor of Colorectal Surgery in Imperial College. He was Clinical Director for St Mark’s Hospital 2004-2017 and also for luminal gastrointestinal surgery, medical gastroenterology, and emergency surgery, having previously been Chairman of Surgery and afterwards Dean of St Mark’s Academic Institute. He was Director of the St Mark’s Polyposis Registry until 2013 and honorary administrative co-director of INSIGHT, the international society for the investigation of gastrointestinal hereditary tumours, until 2011. He was Civilian Consultant in Colorectal Surgery to the Royal Navy and past President of the Section of Coloproctology of the Royal Society of Medicine. He has edited/co-edited 5 books, (co-) supervised 20 MD/PhD theses and published 300 peer-reviewed articles on a broad range of colorectal topics, more recently focussing on complex re-do surgery after anastomotic failure in the pelvis, rectovaginal fistula and anal fistula.
