Faecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) : Is it the Holy Grail of Modern Medicine?
Gut : Holds an enormous amount of life within it. We have a symbiotic relationship with millions of organisms / Helminths / viruses and Fungi. The hygienic civilization has created a state of civilizational poverty. This has led to less stronger immune system - thereby causing many ailments. Ailments range from organic, neoplastic , functional and intellectual. The diseases range from inflammatory bowel problems ( Crohn's and ulcerative colitis), irritable bowel syndrome ( constipation and diarrhea), disruption of the gut and brain axis thereby causing - anxiety related disorders, developmental problems ( Attention Deficit and Hyperactivity Disorder / autism), mood disorders ( depression / personality disorders) to even causing cancers.
Whether Faecal transplant holds a solution, is a million dollar question.
There certainly is growing evidence of benefits in multiple Diseases.
